GLE-Class SUV

For all the twists and turns

General information

Design

Imposing proportions and forceful, confident styling make the new GLE a striking addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup. The GLE features striking porportions and dramatic bodystyle, ensuring the imposing nature of the GLE lives on. The front section is particularly eye-catching with its dramatic air intakes, twin-louvre grille, and wraparound full LED headlamps. Power domes on the bonnet further emphasise the car’s dynamic, purposeful character.

Inside, the spacious cabin matches sumptuous materials and finishes with a wealth of on-board technology. This includes a floating 8” display, the COMAND Online entertainment and navigation system, and the intuitive touchpad controller.

Hybrid power

For the ultimate in SUV efficiency, the new GLE lineup features a plug-in hybrid version. The GLE 500e combines a formidable 328 bhp 3-litre V6 petrol engine with an 114 bhp electric motor. This is powered by a lithium ion battery that can be charged via a wallbox in as little as two hours*.

Intelligent Hybrid technology offers a range of drive modes, using the electric motor to supplement the combustion engine, for example, when added power is needed for overtaking. This enables extraordinarily efficient performance, with fuel economy of up to 85.6 mpg combined and CO2 emissions as low as 78 g/km. When running solely on electric power, the GLE 500e has a range of up to 18 miles with a top speed of 80 mph – and produces zero local emissions.

*Charging time 20–100%, ranging from 1.9 to 4 h, depending on the power source (400 V/16 A–230V/8A).

4MATIC

Fitted as standard, 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive enables dynamic, assured handling and enhanced safety in even the most challenging conditions.

4MATIC is completely integrated with the GLE Coupé’s other safety and driving assistance systems, including the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®). So it can precisely determine when and where power is needed most and manage the torque requirements of each wheel individually.

Should the 4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4ETS) detect wheelspin, it reacts by rapidly pulsing the brake at the slipping wheel. It can then send torque back to the wheel or wheels that still have grip, so they can apply power to the road and get you back on track.

Safety

The GLE is packed with technology to take the strain off the driver, help avoid accidents, and enhance protection for occupants and other road users. Key to this is the optional Driving Assistance Package Plus, a suite of advanced safety and assistance systems. These include BAS PLUS with Junction Assist, which optimises braking in hazardous situations, even when the driver fails to react. It can even detect crossing traffic or pedestrians at junctions and react accordingly.

Similarly, Active Lane Keeping Assist not only warns you if you’re straying out of your lane but can autonomously intervene to correct the situation. DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot is another vital feature, helping maintain a safe distance to the vehicle ahead and reducing the risk and severity of rear-end collisions.
